Basic Knowledge of Polyurethane Foam

Production Process

A. Mix the Foaming resin, foaming additives, and adhesive resin together. The adhesive resin provides the finished product with adhesive properties.

B. Carry out the foaming process. Mix 80 parts of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), 20 parts of APAO PT 3385, 20 parts of azodicarbonamide, 19 parts of CaCO₃, and 0.6 parts of dicumyl peroxide. Place the mixture into a mold for foaming, and then mechanically break the closed cells to obtain the foamed Sponge. The resulting foam has a density of 0.028 g/cm³ and a 25% compression hardness of 1.9 kPa.

Even when the same materials are used, different manufacturing processes can produce products with significantly different properties and structures.

PU Foam

PU foam mainly includes polyester-based and polyether-based polyurethane foam. It can be sliced into sheets or roll-cut, and can also undergo further processing according to customer requirements, including lamination, heat pressing, and cell-opening treatment.

Due to its excellent properties such as thermal insulation, heat resistance, sound absorption, shock absorption, flame retardancy, antistatic performance, and breathability, PU foam is widely used in various industries, including the automotive industry, battery industry, cosmetics industry, bra and underwear manufacturing, and high-end furniture manufacturing.

How to Choose High-Quality Foam

1. Check the feel and elasticity

When selecting foam, its feel and elasticity are two important factors. High-quality foam should feel soft to the touch and have good flexibility and resilience.

2. Check for foam shedding

A practical way to evaluate foam quality is to fold the foam in half and rub the two surfaces together. If the foam begins to shed particles or crumbs after only a few rubs, it may indicate poor durability or material quality.
